Creation is Important

For those who work in the creative field, this could very well be your livelihood, and getting projects done is how you keep food on the table. Or maybe you just need some kind of creative outlet to release all the struggles of the daily grind. Maybe you just like the idea of creating something, but really have no idea what to do or how to do it.

I've actually been in all three of these scenarios. As I child, I wished I could be creative, but always felt I was just too logical to be the creative type. But my logical brain just wasn't meant to compose symphonies, poetry, paintings, or art of any kind.

At least that's what I thought. Until I realized there is more to creativity than this limited view. Each and every being on earth was designed to create. Yes, creativity can be musical or artistic, but it is so much more than that.

I can create artistically, yes. I learned and developed this skill, but I can also logically create something that has previously never existed. I can create smiles on the faces of others who don't have one. I can create jokes and laughter. I can create tears and emotions. I can create new relationships with others. As a woman, I can create children. I can create stronger muscles. If I chose, I can develop those skills even further into creating solutions to problems, creating results in the workplace.

Creativity is making something that has never existed before.

This is a powerful act that can be used for both good and evil. I can create joy or sadness, strength or pain.

We are constantly creating, whether we realize it or not. We are creating our lives by design in every choice we make. A choice is an act of creativity and creation! Who knew?

And recognizing this, I have found so much purpose and so much joy. Creating something from moment to moment makes me feel alive and powerful. I can create anything. There is no limit to the imagination and if it can be imagined, it can be made real in the physical world as well.

It may take time to figure out exactly how, but that is the problem-solving side of creativity. My logical brain can also create, and that was so freeing!

I was suddenly able to create as a way to relax and simply enjoy time after work. I wrote a book, just like I said I was going to do "one day." That phrase "one day" was suddenly able to turn into "I am." I now got to proudly say, "I am writing a book."

Once I actually published my book that was a side hobby, I was hooked. I have since published 2 more, with 2 others well underway. This is now my livelihood because I can't picture doing anything else.

I love the act of creating and how it can motivate me to do things I don't want to do. Workout? No, thanks. Create health and strength? Well, ok!

Creativity is a skill that can be learned and developed.

It is NOT an innate talent you either have or you don't, or are maybe blessed with when the inspiration strikes. During my first year working as an elementary school librarian, I asked my students if creativity is a skill or if you are just born with it. I found it fascinating that my kindergarteners, 1st graders, and 2nd graders all said creativity is a skill. The older they got, the more said it was something you were either born with or not. My 6th graders actually argued with me on this topic when I called it a skill. Because 6th graders know everything, right?

From the time we are little, everything is a skill that must be learned. Walking, reading, dancing, telling time, what are numbers, how to draw... everything. Somewhere along the way, we get ashamed that we aren't the best at something, and we give up.

Unless we LOVE it. Then we do it because it's fun and we like it. Those are the ones that become the best at what they do, after years of practice, study, and DOING IT!

Creativity is the same way. Sure, some days may be harder than others. But we keep practicing. We learn little tips and tricks that help strengthen that creative muscle.

Doing the thing with no instruction doesn't make us any better.

We have to learn and grow from others. Which is SUPER uncomfortable. And difficult. Especially looking at something like creativity. There are a few articles here and there, but I haven't seen anything quite this in-depth and collective. This is my personal experience and designed to save you time.

Time spent waiting for inspiration.

Time spent spinning your wheels on mediocre work.

Time spent figuring out what you are doing wrong.

Time spent looking for options to help stop the madness.

Time spent experimenting on different kinds of advice that may or may not work.

This. Works.

Not only does it work, but it has also changed my life completely. Creativity has helped me to see the world with new eyes, given me new experiences and opportunities, giving me a more full life. Full of joy, freedom, and abundance.

Each course module is based on personal experience, various experts rooted in science, and years of study.
